Welsh Water warns against bogus callers

By Amy Willis, Cardiff Evening News

WELSH Water issued a warning today to its Cardiff customers after a number of incidents where thieves have posed as water metre inspectors.

Welsh Water’s Suzanne Evans said: “There have been several bogus caller incidents in the area recently so it’s important to remind customers of the dangers.

Julie Lipscomb, senior consumer education coordinator for Cardiff Consumer Advice Centre for Trading Standards, said it was an ongoing problem in Cardiff. She said although it is not a new problem, it was important that people check strangers credentials and make sure they are genuine before letting them in.

Welsh Water have said all their staff carry identity cards but any customers in doubt should call the bogus caller helpline on 0800 281141. They also have a password protection system in place for more vulnerable customers.
